When and why did you start your business?
CAD Bureau southern was established in May 1998 and became a limited company in 2002. After 18 years of creating Technical Drawings within the manufacturing industry I was offered the chance of setting up a company where I could provide a technical drawing service for other industries. This eventually led to providing training courses in the use of CAD (Computer Aided Design) software so that individuals can create their own technical drawings.
Describe your USP. What makes you stand out?
I am an award-winning apprentice trained draughtsman with over 40 years of draughting experience. I also have over 35 years CAD experience in many industry sectors and have also been a CAD instructor since 2003.
By providing training in CAD I have to take several exams every year to keep on top of industry trends. This continual learning helps me to provide quality technical drawings for our bureau work. In turn by providing drawings for industry, we can provide practical examples of work on our training courses - the two complement each other.
What Services or products do you offer?
We provide technical drawing services for all industries and don't limit ourselves to any single market. But our main clients are fire consultants, arboriculturists, mechanical ventilation and manufacturing. We also provide CAD courses in CAD software programs such as AutoCAD, Revit, Fusion 360 and Inventor, along with providing consultancy services in those products.
Who are your perfect clients?
Every client is valued, and we never lose sight of that. We like to establish a working relationship with our clients and rely on their repeat business. We keep our regular client base deliberately low so that we ensure we can respond to their needs and targets in a timely manner. Many of our regular clients tell us that they regard us as part of their own team and as part of that loyalty we do not approach our clients' competitors for work and the potential to give away trade secrets.
Please describe you biggest success story to date (business or personal)
Autodesk is the world's leading supplier of CAD software with circa 750 million users worldwide. In 2011 CAD Bureau Southern became an official Autodesk Training Centre, Learning Partner and Academic Partner. In 2015 I became just 1 of 125 recognized Autodesk training instructors worldwide and have now achieved a Gold standard rating with Autodesk. In 2003, the London Fire & Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA) asked CAD Bureau to take part in their "Best Value review" pitting us against their in-house CAD team - we trounced them!

We are based at Colbea City Central, from where we run all our CAD training courses. However, we can provide both our courses, consultancy work and draughting services at your own premises whether your local or further afield.
