The most important asset within a company is the people – and in the current financial climate now is the time to invest in your training and development to ensure you stand out within the workforce.

Colchester Institute is a major vocational college in north Essex and attracts approximately 12,000 students each year. The College is at the forefront for enabling businesses to ensure their people are professionally trained in the relevant areas and therefore prides itself in offering learners a number of ways in which to study - at work, on campus, day-time or evening, full-time or part-time.

There are over 850 full-time and part-time courses on offer which lead to qualifications that employers value: from National Certificates and Diplomas through to Apprenticeships and Train to Gain. Undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, including the prestigious MBA, are also available at the College, which are validated by the University of Essex.

The College works in partnership with employers locally, nationally and internationally to ensure the highest quality of education and training are given as well as providing skills needed to cope with the challenging business world.

One of the key benefits of studying at Colchester Institute is that it enables students to obtain work-related knowledge of particular industries, professions and trades, and gain qualifications that are recognised by business. Vocational knowledge, key skills and relevant qualifications are what employers look for when recruiting.

The College has built strong and practical links with organisations and businesses in the local community. Colchester Institute’s Centre for Hospitality and Food Studies enjoys an excellent regional reputation and the Balkerne Restaurant was named as Restaurant Magazine’s Restaurant of the Year in 2008.

A range of Apprenticeships are available in the following areas: Engineering, Plumbing, Brickwork, Joinery, Food Preparation and Electrical Installations. Colchester Institute provides all the necessary support for employers who are looking to take on an Apprentice in a particular discipline.

The Train to Gain programme is a government initiative to help businesses get the training they need to succeed. It offers NVQ courses in various areas including: Construction, Hospitality, Team Leading and Customer Services. These qualifications are recognised throughout their sectors.
