Colbea – Colchester’s centre of excellence for new and start up businesses – welcomed the town’s mayor, Cllr Sonia Lewis, on 25 June.
Meeting some of the small businesses that occupy the 36 units at the Business Centre in George Williams Way, the Mayor had a tour of the building and learnt about the on-site business advice and training that is available to all businesses whether they are just starting out or already trading.
Cllr Lewis met several tenants including Colin Adepoju from Untie Publishing. Colin has been trading for several years but has only recently taken the step of moving into rented premises and is full of praise for the help he has received from the Business Centre staff. The easy-in easy-out leases allow flexibility for tenants and remove the burden often associated with being tied in to a long lease. Colin’s business in publishing is doing well and he has recently launched a new magazine entitled EMI.
As well as touring the existing Business Centre with Mr Baggalley and Colbea’s Chairman, Dr Malcolm Braithwaite, the Mayor heard about the new North Colchester Business Centre which is currently under construction and due to open in January 2011. There is already interest in 12 of the 28 offices at the new site on the North Colchester Business Park. Cllr Lewis saw artists’ impressions showing the finished business centre’s exterior appearance and internal office space.
