Holness Construction

From being one man with a van, with Colbea’s help Dave Holness set up Holness Construction, which now employs 12 staff and 20 sub-contractors.
Dave started as a carpenter and joiner at just 15 years of age and now has over 25 years experience. Six years ago he set up Holness Construction, which provides carpentry and purpose joinery services to the commercial, residential and private sectors.
Over several years Bob Baggalley, who manages Colbea, has provided Holness Construction with guidance to help develop and grow the business through effective business management. Colbea’s knowledge of local contacts has also played a key role in the success of the business, by helping to source and develop their current business premises in Horsley Cross, which is located in regenerated farm buildings. “They provided useful contacts which helped to sort out planning and regeneration issues”, as Dave says, “without Colbea’s advice sending us down the right lines, we couldn’t do what we do and be where we are today.”
Colbea also put them into contact with the Colchester Institute. This resulted in a bespoke training programme being set up in-house at Holness Construction, which currently has 3 apprentices from the local area.
After recently being awarded C.H.A.S (the Contractor’s Health and Safety Accreditation Scheme), which opens up new opportunities for Holness Construction, Dave confirmed, “I have plans to double the size of the business and regenerate more of the farm buildings over the next 5 to 10 years. With Colbea’s continued guidance of course!”
